Depending on the application, I suppose there are pros and cons.
It makes you wonder if we will soon see a new exception to the 4th amendment. Specifically, some modification to plain view doctrine.

Yeah, who doesn't love the idea of forcefields?

I recently read an article talking about how progress is also being made using "plasma". These are ostensibly used to absorb radio frequencies (stealthiness) and block the use of energy weapons (ie Laser, Phaser and Ion Ray Gun).

Just as we've seen the advent of so many high-tech inventions that we used to watch on cartoons as a kid (for me, it was the Jetsons then Star Trek et al), those of us who persist a few more decades will likely see many more, including hand-held phasers, force fields and perhaps even visible light cloaking.

It's a Great time to be alive!

Im discovering there are a lot of Ayn Rand fans out there. Thanks for the suggestions. And, as the sticker on my office door asks, Who is John Galt?

As far as Ayn Rand goes, I would suggest you dive into her non-fiction like Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal or The Virtue of Selfishness. They develop and amplify the themes and ideas found in Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. Her defense of capitalism as a moral system is quite unique in history--most defenders laud its practical, utilitarian benefits while conceding the moral high ground to statism.
